The Pickpocket Bag: the most exposed trend of the season
From Fendi to Balenciaga’s Rodeo, luxury turns nonchalant: all the charm lies in revealed imperfection
It took just one appearance in London to spark the new desire of the season. At the 2025 Booker Prize, Sarah Jessica Parker — an impeccable style icon — flaunts a wide-open Fendi bag, deliberately left open. Not a distraction, but a precise gesture that perfectly translates the insouciant attitude of the moment. The runways had already anticipated it: Fendi, Loewe, Chanel, Balenciaga. All aligned in showcasing bags carried with ease, slightly ajar, ready to reveal internal details and textures. A new idea of spontaneous luxury, abandoning rigidity in favour of naturalness. At Fendi’s show, the Peekaboo opens generously, revealing decorative interiors, sequins and unexpected colours: the inside becomes an integral part of the look, no longer a secret to be concealed. Balenciaga, with the Rodeo bag, pushes the concept even further, proposing a soft, lived-in bag, worn as if it were already part of the wearer’s everyday life, not an object to be handled with care. The same attitude returns in Loewe’s proposals, where the Amazona — especially in suede and soft leather versions — is deliberately left open, with the zip visible and the interior taking part in the narrative. Prada works on the same idea of freedom, with roomy bags crafted from calf leather or brushed leather, designed to be accessible and lived in, while Saint Laurent opts for a more essential route: clean shoppers and shoulder bags, worn semi-open, with no emphasis on the logo.
