Italian designers Domenico Dolce, Sicilian, and Stefano Gabbana, Milanese, met in the fashion house where they worked in the '80s. Domenico started to design and tailor clothes at a very young age; Stefano was in charge of the production processes, and they decided to work together to establish their brand. They presented their first women's collection in 1985, and five years later they launched their first men's collection. They won international recognition that same year when Madonna wore a corset made of gemstones from their collection at the Cannes Film Festival, and a year later she asked the designers to design the costumes for her tour. Starting in 2000, the brand has become well-known around the globe, anticipating trends in the fashion system and in music, taking inspiration from the Sicilian atmosphere and from retro lingerie with the characteristic tailleurs and the bustiers.
