Cut-outs everywhere

Circular, openings and slits that create unexpected asymmetries

Cut-outs are the decorative trait of the 2019 spring season. They come in different shapes- circular, diamond or drop-like and slits- that unexpectedly reveal some centimetres of skin for an original and seductive look in an outfit with an asymmetric touch. This trend permeates all garments- from sweatshirts to evening dresses- like the minimalist black gowns with a drop-like cut-out in the décolleté area from Jacquemus and Marc Jacobs. Or like the triangle cut-out on the sides of the denims by Kreist. As true representatives of Rick Owens's avant-garde ‘glunge’ style, the cut-outs in his models reveal the waist and the shoulders. Whereas See By Chloé adds a circular cut-out hip detail to their fluid crêpe dresses.
